Forged copper ring with a matte finish inside, hammered texture and patina on the outside.
Forging is probably my second favourite technique besides carving. These box rings must be hammered accurately on four points around the band in order to achieve the square shape. Copper is nice and malleable and so lends itself well to this kind of work. I love watching the metal stretch as the shape flattens out on four sides. I also absolutely love the dark patina that forms when heating it up for soldering. There is something quite magical about this warm, red, malleable metal.
Each piece that I make is individually cut, carved, shaped and/or hammered and so each will have it's own unique personality.
